Croydon Road

Date: January to December 2023 Project value: £400,000 Mechanical and Electrical To 46 2-3 bedroom new build apartments, we undertook supply and installation of incoming mains power supply, small power distribution and lighting and mechanical controls wiring. The development consisted of underground car parking over 3 storeys, a well-known supermarket chains store on the ground floor and apartments over 4 storeys. First fix electrical installations were challenging on this project as structural metal section walls were constructed, so installing to exact dimension provided on the client's design proved difficult. Regular setting out and marking of drawings for proposed location changes required client sign-off and approval which takes time. The engineers had to be sympathetic to the need for fire protection measures during first fix and a precise method of installation was needed to ensure adequate distances between services was maintained to not hinder the fire protection installation procedure. Once hurdles were overcome from the first fix process installations progressed at a good pace with regular programme updates being implemented across all trades. The site management team allocated a manager per floor to ensure good working relationships were maintained and a fresh face for the installers helped to keep enthusiasm levels high. Testing and certification of the electrical installation along with notifications to building control via our NIC-EIC portal confirmed the installation as sound and complete.
